And scandal makes front page again. This time in the form of old emails sent that may have used offensive language and talked about another person's character behind their back. Oh what has this world come to?
Nova Peris labels Cathy Freeman 'so so dumb'
What I am questioning is not Nova Peris' action. What I am questioning is why and how do we even have access to this information? Surely someone's PRIVATE emails are exactly that. Private.
I believe we should start using the same brush for journalism that they use in Federal Courts in America when they try a criminal case. If the evidence was obtained without following the proper protocols, it should be inadmissible.
Everyone has the right to privacy and when you have a conversation with someone, regardless of who that person is, especially discussing your intimate life, I believe it should remain private.
Shame on the journalists that believe they can discredit a person purely because they are now in the public arena as a politician. Sure - if you find evidence like this that shows the person may be less of an ideal figure, then use it to start your own investigations into their political career and their public life and disprove them that way. It is time our journalists start putting in the hard yards where it matters to the public - the policy debates and the dealings of our elected members where it matters.
Leave their personal life alone. I bet if someone started digging into your private life you wouldn't come up smelling like roses either.
